The dream for So Big began in 2008 when I heard a whisper from God that changed my life. While serving as director for the Women’s Health Clinic at the St Vincent Primary Care Center in Indianapolis, I supervised and taught resident physicians as they cared for pregnant women that were often in desperate situations. Some women were living out of their cars, some needed more food, while others sat crying in the exam room, thinking abortion was their only option. During this time, God pressed it into my heart that every life matters and He laid out a picture of a home where a pregnant woman could find shelter, food and most of all love.
The next 10 years were full of surprises, joy and some heartache. During that time God led So Big to a beautiful, 100 year old house in Whitestown, Indiana owned by New Hope Christian Church. After wading through the processes of zoning, building codes and remodeling we were finally aboe to open the Mountain House Maternity Home on March 1, 2018. Over the next 5 1/2 years we served 38 women, 21 babies and 16 siblings, before closing our doors on November 1, 2023. It was an amazing experience and one that provided a lot of growth and learning for our organization. |
Currently we taking time to seek God in how He wants So Big to offer Hope to pregnant women in need in this next chapter. As we wait we are working with local firehouses as we would like to donate a Safe Haven Baby Box to one of Indianapolis' surrounding communities.
