While the term maternity home seems outdated, the pregnant woman who is need of physical, emotional, medical and spiritual support is increasingly common. As an ObGyn who works entirely with underserved and underrepresented women, I know the profound needs that some expectant mothers face. Anyone who has been involved in a such a situation knows the lack of resources that are available; especially the comprehensive support and care the maternity home model is designed to provide.
My family enthusiastically supports So Big in their vision to provide shelter and sustenance to pregnant women in need, while encouraging activities and goals aimed at self-sufficiency. The mission statement of So Big resonates with the hope that every expectant mother and new child should know. We feel that our monthly tithe is supporting an organization that shows the heart of God and the love of Christ to some of the most needy in our society today while at the same time securing a better future for their unborn children. It is our privilege to support So Big." -Dr. Sarah Shaffer, ObGyn at University of Iowa Healthcare |
